It can prevent the harmful effects of a cancer medication called methotrexate in patients with bone cancer (osteosarcoma). It can also treat patients who receive too much methotrexate for other conditions. When used in combination with 5-fluorouracil (Adrucil®), it can relieve and prevent symptoms of advanced metastatic cancer of the colon and rectum.
